Scavenger Hunt Slideshows!

Today we had a picture/video scavenger hunt. Teens met at the church, divided into 4 teams, got their lists (below) and headed out on the town to accomplish as many tasks as possible in an hour and a half. The reigning champion team came home with about 650 points! Contratulations team Mrs. Jamie! Enjoy the video slideshows we showed the teens. Below the videos you'll see the list of tasks they had to accomplish...

Summer Camp – Registration Sunday March 10

February Summer?! Yep, you read it right. We are already talking about Summer camp. This Sunday will be our one-month mark that begins the countdown for Registration Sunday. Summer camp is a chance to get away from the world and focus an entire week on preaching. Every year, life-changing decisions are made and strong bonds are formed in our youth department. Praying and thinking through the list of spiritual decisions from last year’s camp has reminded me all over again why we put so much of our time and money into the young people of Calvary Baptist Church. Plan now to sign up for Summer...

2013 Preaching Rally Theme Unveiled!

Last Sunday we unveiled the theme for the 2013 Preaching Rally: TIMELESS. Now what in the world does TIMELESS mean?   From Romans 16:17–20 we learned of Paul’s passion for doctrine and his encouraging the believers to “mark” anyone with contrary doctrine. Apparently in his day, much like today, false teachers were lying to the masses, proclaiming a false doctrine that was contrary to Christ and His Truth. In essence he was encouraging any Christian who was passionate about that same Truth to be on guard and ever ready to contend for the faith. Why do these false prophets lie? Why do these...

“Be Our Guest” Wednesday

“Be Our Guest” Wednesday

We recently sent out a large postcard announcing the unveiling of our new outreach program coming up on "Be Our Guest" Wednesday, November 9 at 7pm. Parents are welcome to sit in on the services as we go through the different steps we'll take when a guest visits our class. PLEASE don't miss "Be Our Guest" Wednesday, teens! A huge emphasis in the Teens of Faith has simply been on Loving God. If God can get their hearts, everything else will fall in place. And... once God gets their hearts, it should result in changed hearts toward others. Our teens have evidenced that heart for others in the way that...

TOF Outreach vs. Apple: which is more important?

Are you a boss, or have you had a boss, or have you seen a boss that is absolutely by-the-book? Every little detail must be perfect. By now you've heard that Steve Jobs, co-founder and former CEO of Apple, passed away last week, and he was just that type of boss. But… the company showed that his exacting standards paid off, and Apple’s attention to detail has been a trademark of their success. While I like to toy with Apple products and appreciate the flash of everything new they produce, what I can learn from the most is their rigid and unmoving attention to detail. Steve Jobs’ philosophy...

Afterglows

The afterglows that the Teens of Faith have been doing have been great times of fellowship... not to mention fun! Through the summer we're going to different homes after Sunday night services and spending time playing together, and it's a time to practice outreach, build friendships, and make memories. It's a simple but fun tool to encourage the families of our church, and we've enjoyed the families who've hosted us and the parents who've joined in our fun. Below you'll find a few silly pictures from when we went to the Bakers' house. What a treat to have a professional photographer on board...

TOF Work Days

Our teens have such a great spirit to serve the Lord already, and the last few Wednesday nights have been spent talking about service and working hard. Last night we introduced something we'll be doing about once a month in order for our teens to be involved in simply doing... work! As you can see from the graphic, we're calling them "Learn to Work Days." I figure that the best way to learn how to work is to... you know... work! Already we have been using a few teens to do labor around the church and hiring others for work outside of church, and every time we have any kind of a work day I'll...

WCBC College Days

Satan will fight even what we consider to be "small" steps of faith, but our teens got to see God answer prayers this week.  Even with big games looming and a lot going on at school and home, all five teens who went to the West Coast College Days now have no regrets about attending.  That's a simple answer to prayer.  A couple Sunday nights ago we had our first parent meeting, in which we tried to convey a few goals for the Teens of Faith.  A major goal that we have is to further promote an atmosphere, or culture, of Bible College, and we got an incredible taste of dorm life, great preaching,...
